The Autumnal Equinox is today, and as usual, it marks a seasonal shift in several realms for me.
First, of course, there’s the weather. Cooler, less humid, crisper. And much shorter days as we’re halfway to the winter solstice.
It’s also a kind of winding down. Of a season. Of the year. Maybe even more. Here are some winding down highlights with some things in opposition happening at the same time . . .
75 Years
I turned 75 this past summer. That’s 75 orbits around the sun. Plenty of time to figure things out. You know: the meaning of life, that sort of thing. I’m not quite there, but one thing I’ve figured out is that I’m truly a water being. A Cancerian. A moon child. A crab.
To prove it, here’s a little video I did to celebrate my 75 orbiting years. By doing an “amphibious hike” of 75 meters. Don’t know what that is? Well, here you go:

Swimming
Tying into what I’m saying above, I’ve been swimming regularly in my local outdoor 50-meter pool. Which is now winding down its season (end of September). I notice I’m not swimming as fast as I once could. But I don’t mind. It’s more about just being in the water for me. The feeling of floating. Of streamlining. Of leaving the terrestrial world behind, even if only for a few minutes.
Disc Golfing
After the outdoor pool closes I plan to shift more to my new sport for the winter months: disc golf. It’s much more technique-oriented than I originally thought, which means I have a lot to learn. I find that both challenging and satisfying.
Writing
I’m also winding down—or is it up?—the draft of my new Post-Apocalyptic Thriller novel. I’ve reached the climax section of the draft. Lots of threads that need tying up to bring it to a rousing conclusion and resolution. Still plan to have it out right after the end of this year. Hint: it has something to do with the twilight.
Happy Equinox!

One more year to 75! Where did the time go?
Enjoy the milestone – and the fact that you are still doing so many things. It’s a huge birthday present.
