There’s a lyric line in the 1972 song “Summer Breeze” by Seals & Crofts that goes: Summer breeze, makes me feel fine; blowin’ through the jasmine in my mind. (Can you hear it in your head? I can. Find it online if you need a reminder.)
The song captures the feeling of a summer day. A mood. Of long days, long swims and hikes, and the end of long days of writing my latest novel.
Here are some highlights leading up to today’s Summer Solstice . . .
Writing & Publishing
I just published my sixth novel: The Twilights. In a nutshell: It’s 80 years after an asteroid has completely changed the planet, and a small and determined group struggles for survival in North America. It’s dystopia, it’s post-apocalyptic, it’s action-packed. But it’s not a bummer. There are people, animals, and ideas to root for. Feel free to grab a copy on Amazon in either ebook or paperback, and add it to your summer reading pile.
On the Hollywood front, the TV/Movie option for my New York 1609 novel has been extended. Still way too soon to know what’s going to happen with this, but hey, you never know.
And I’m back to publishing a weekly newsletter for my local lap swimming group at our nearby outdoor pool. It’s fun to resurrect old editorial skills from my magazine days. Only now, I’m using Substack:
Sports & Fitness
I’m continuing my love affair with both swimming and disc golf. They both energize me, although each in a different way. The swimming is long and fluid . . . an old friend.
While disc golf is still new and challenging. It’s all about being in nature while trying to improve my throwing skills.
And both involve socialization, which is a definite must while we age. As I approach my 76th year on this pre-asteroid-strike planet next month, I believe in that more and more.
Sweet days of summer, the jasmine’s in bloom . . .
Happy Summer Solstice!

Congratulations on your new book! You are spot on regarding socialization; it is a must as we age! As a Nurse for many decades, I have seen the toll isolation wreaks havoc both physically and mentally. So…. Keep swimming and disc golfing. Will keep you ahead of the aging game!

Thanks, Karen. And glad you agree with the need for socialization. It’s taken me a few decades to understand it.
