When a powerful and wet snowstorm hit in my area in January, we lost power and were housebound for days. Which provided a silver lining: I was able to think about my next book with no distractions. Other than staying warm, keeping the candles lit, and saving as much food as possible, of course.
And I was so excited about my progress on the new book that I decided to skip my regular trip to the beach at the Outer Banks of North Carolina and just keep working on my concepts, research, and writing.
So here I am, on the day of the Spring Equinox, having taken yesterday off to help with our annual road cleanup:
While the new book progresses, I keep getting feedback on the current ones, especially the NEANDER trilogy:
Some favorite NEANDER editorial reviews:
“This is a well-written, compelling, and believable story of a man thrust into a world thousands of years before his own. The characters Tom meets are realistic and sympathetic. I became so interested in the Neanderthals that I wanted to learn more about them. This is one of those books I didn’t want to end.”
— Susie Pruett, Historical Novels Review
“Gripping . . . entertaining . . . I couldn’t put it down–except to eat–until I finished it late last night.”
— Mike Booth, Medium journalist/author
“. . . the science woven into these books by the author is compelling and based on real findings. Johnson has written fun and fact-based fantasies.”
— Noelle Granger, SaylingAway Reviews
“Neander: Evolution is the final book in the highly original and well-researched NEANDER trilogy . . . As with the other books, the narrative flows well and I read it quickly, anxious to know what was going to happen.”
— Terry Tyler, Terry Tyler Book Reviews
“As captivating and enjoyable as the first two books! A great way to enter another universe and forget for a few hours the uncertain times we are facing.”
— Gilles Biscos, researcher, author, publisher
And I haven’t forgotten about my debut novel: NEW YORK 1609. Nor has Hollywood.
My on-off-on-again negotiations for the TV/movie rights in an Option-Purchase Agreement are back on. This is still not a done deal yet, and knowing something about how Hollywood works, it may not be. But I am open to it.
I’ll close on this Balance of Days 2022 with my hopes and best wishes for the people of Ukraine. Slava Ukraini.

Is one supposed to say ‘break a leg’ about movie possibilities? On/off sounds about right for Hollywood.

On/Off is closer to reality. Thanks Alicia!
