The earth spins through its seasonal cycles because of its 23.5-degree tilt off the vertical of its orbital axis. In plainer words, it leans over as it rotates every 24 hours and as it revolves once a year around the sun. And when that lean reaches its maximum tilt toward El Sol, that’s when we hit the Solstice, the longest day of the year. We in the Northern Hemisphere call it “summer.”
Here are some recent highlights of the lead up to summer 2023 for me so far . . .
Swimming
My club’s outdoor 50-meter pool opened on May 6. This is always a day I look forward to. When I can really stretch out and let the water take me away.
Throwing
My newer sport, disc golf, is also taking hold. There’s just something primal about it. Beyond the gaming, competing, and being in nature aspects. It has to do with the act of throwing an object at a target. And it turns out that throwing is one of the few physical skills at which Homo sapiens truly excels compared to other animals.
I remember aiming and throwing things as a kid. And now I’m back to doing it again.
Writing
While my older novels continue to rack up reads and sales, I’m working away on a new book. And I’m pushing myself again by moving in a Post-Apocalyptic Thriller direction. I’ve always liked this sub-genre of fiction, and now I’m in the middle of it. Hoping for it to come out around the end of the year.
Mourning
Our wonderful kitty passed away in April. It always hurts so much.
Living
But the living goes on. As the earth spins, we live our lives. And so do the cows across the road from me.
Happy Solstice!

If you’re writing a post-apocalyptic thriller, be sure to check with Bard, ChatGPT and Ernie-bot (Baidu) about whether you’ve exceeded the guardrails of large language models.
Harald says
Not sure I understand your point, Joe. I’m using ChatGPT only for basic research, much like I use Google or anything else. It’s just a first-pass kind of thing that then moves to more refinement and vetting.

Many thanks, RM. We’ve shared many earthly spins together, haven’t we?
