I was wondering about the “vernal” in the Vernal Equinox (today). So I looked it up. It’s from Latin: of or pertaining to spring. Also used for springlike, fresh, young, youthful.
And, of course, it’s the point where we’re halfway from the winter solstice to its summer complement. Sort of like a coming and a going. Helping me think about recent events in my life and what’s coming down the road . . .
The “going” part was really brought home to me when my mom, Ingeborg or Inga as she came to be known, passed away on February 4, 2023. She made it to her 94th birthday, and although I’d had plenty of time to prepare, it still hit me hard.
But the memories remain. Like watching her take pleasure in moving my first authored book from the bottom shelf to an eye-level one at a local Barnes & Noble. And seeing her smile as she read the dedication to her (“Für Mutti”) in another one of my books.
Another “going” is the shifting from a cold “pre-spring” to a warmer, proper spring. When the grass starts greening, and the daffodils and camellias give way to the first leaf buds on the trees coming back to life.
The Comings
Like the positivity of spring, I see some good things on the horizon.
My younger niece, Kira, and her husband, Leo, are expecting!
And on the book front, I’m expecting to continue to make progress on my new novel, shooting again for publication at the end of this year. Subject top secret.
The latest book—EL NORTE—is getting some good reviews:
. . . while the success of my NEANDER series has prompted me to create and offer the trilogy as a self-contained “box set.” Box set is kind of a misnomer when it will be available only as an ebook, but that’s the way the indie publishing biz rolls, so that’s what I’ll be doing. Soon.
And in the sports and fitness realm, my disc golf game is improving, and my local pool’s outdoor swim season is starting up in early May—that’s always a highlight for me.
I wonder if our KittyKat ponders such comings and goings in her life . . .
