I’ve had a long relationship with books. Creating them. Everything from designing, editing, ghostwriting, and ultimately, authoring them. Here are my six published novels and my older best-selling nonfiction How-To books (in reverse chronological order) . . .

Historical Fiction: The Birth of NYC!

NEW YORK 1609 (Omnibus Edition)
Welcome to New York City, 1609.
When a Native American (Lenape) boy joins Henry Hudson’s expedition up the river that now bears his name, the fearless and visionary—and misunderstood—Dancing Fish doesn’t realize his entire world and way of life are in peril. Enthralled at first by these strangers, he begins to discover their dark and dangerous side, touching off a decades-long struggle against determined explorers, aggressive traders, land-hungry settlers, and ruthless officials. If his own people are to survive, the boy-turned-man must use his wits, build alliances, and draw on unique skills to block the rising tide of the Dutch and English “salt people.”
Ambition and fear, love and loathing, mutual respect and open contempt bring Europeans and “savages” together in an untold story of the founding of New York City and the fabled island at its heart: Manhattan.
If you have a passion for the historical fiction of Ken Follett, James Michener, or Edward Rutherfurd, you’ll relish this rich and meticulously researched novel.
A historical novel based on true events.
(NOTE: this Omnibus Edition includes updated and revised versions of the four short ebooks in The Manhattan Series plus newly added content.)

THE MANHATTAN SERIES
(Four Novellas)
It’s September, 1609, and two worlds are about to collide.
Explorer Henry Hudson doesn’t know what to expect when he sails across the Atlantic in search of the elusive passage to the Indies. Neither do the native Lenape people on the island of Mannahatta when they see a “great floating bird” approach. Are these Spirits or men? A curious and independent-minded Dancing Fish is given the mission to find out. Initially enthralled by these strangers, he slowly discovers their dark side and must make a difficult choice. Ambition, greed, love, and hate bind the visitors and the “savages” together in a chain of events that will change North America forever.
If you like historical fiction in the style of Ken Follett, James Michener, or Edward Rutherfurd, then you’ll enjoy Harald Johnson’s growing series of short books — based on true events — about the birth of New York City and the island at its center: Manhattan.
NOTE: Above is the original four-novella series. I wrote and published these serially over a one-year period in 2016–2017. At roughly 100 pages each, they became the basis of the final, expanded New York 1609 Omnibus Edition you see here. These novellas are still available on Amazon (as ebooks only), but the newer full-length book is more complete and up-to-date.
My first book…

MASTERING DIGITAL PRINTING
My first (non-fiction) books were the Mastering Digital Printing series back in the ’00s you see here (First and Second editions). They were the definitive resources to the digital imaging and printing revolution for photographers and artists. They were so popular that the first edition was ranked #5 on Amazon (that’s of all books!), and it was even outselling Harry Potter for a brief time. I went on to write a couple of spin-offs and also to shepard some of my friends’ books on the same topic for the publisher (Thomson/Reuters/ Cengage). Helping others write and publish their own books was immensely satisfying. There’s nothing like seeing a book you worked on at a bookstore or on Amazon, even if it’s not your name on the cover.
